EDMONTON-BASED WILD PRAIRIE SOAP COMPANY EXPANDS
INTO SOUTH KOREA
New appetite for simplicity in South Korea a win for Canadian skincare company

June 21, 2022 (Edmonton, AB) — Edmonton-based skincare brand, Wild Prairie Soap Company Inc., has officially launched its Canadian-made products in cosmetics mecca, South Korea! The Canadian brand signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Kotex Co., Ltd. in the fall of 2020 with the first shipment of goods leaving Canada on March 13, 2022. The brand’s official South Korean launch date took place on April 30, 2022 online, on social media, and at the popular wellness event, CityForestival.

Fresh on the heels of its recent expansion into the Japanese market, the female-owned, natural beauty brand is hoping to leverage its popularity in Canada to become a new favourite in the world’s top trendsetting skincare market. Taking the leap into a culture known for its passion for healthy skin and the famous “10-step skincare routine”, founder Tanya Zurock is confident that her company’s brand ethos of simplicity will win the hearts and, in turn, skincare routines, of k-beauty consumers.

“Our company motto is ‘Taking care of your skin shouldn’t be complicated’ and we’ve always designed our products around that belief,” says Zurock. “This is an opportunity to expand the domestic success of our products with a much larger audience in a market that puts high expectations on the efficacy and purity of skincare products. We believe we have the right mix to precisely suit that market.”

In partnership with Kotex Co., Ltd. and Tricycle Corp, an online fashion and lifestyle company, the product launch leveraged an omni-channel marketing approach, particularly capitalizing on the popularity of the home shopping network. “In Korea, it is very common to learn about new products and order them direct to your door,” says partner and Kotex president, Austin Cho. “We know that exposing Wild Prairie to this vast audience will be a great place to showcase what this Canadian brand has to offer the Korean consumer.”

Due in part to the push for hand hygiene during the pandemic, and the rise in demand for bar soap worldwide, Zurock believes that these new consumer habits are a benefit for the brand’s growth. “The pandemic has created a higher demand for healthy, natural soap such as ours. Combine that with consumers’ desires for simpler routines and ingredients, and we think our timing couldn’t be better to enter this market!”
